CHEMOTHERAPY :
It is a widely used treatment for lung cancer at all stages. it works by using strong medications to kill cancer cells or stop their growth. many chemotherapy drugs exist, with most being administered intravenously (through a vein), while some are available in pill form. chemotherapy is often used before surgery to shrink tumors and after surgery to eliminate any remaining cancer cells. it can also be used alone or in combination with other type of treatments, such as immunotherapy, radiation therapy or targeted therapy. Common chemotherapy drugs for lung cancer include Cisplatin, Gemcitabine, and Docetaxel. Nausea, vomiting, hair loss, and skin issues these are the most common side effects of chemotherapy.
RADIATION THERAPY :
Radiation therapy uses high-energy radiations such as X-Rays, gamma rays and protons to destroy the lung cancer cells, so they lose the ability to grow and divide. It can be used alone or in combination with other treatments like chemotherapy or surgery, or as a primary treatment when surgery is not an option. Radiation is used very precisely to minimize damage to surrounding healthy tissue. In advanced cases, radiation therapy helps relieve symptoms like pain and breathing difficulties. Side effects may include fatigue, cough, shortness of breath and skin irritation.
IMMUNOTHERAPY :
Immunotherapy helps the body's immune system recognize and destroy the cancer cells by blocking proteins that allows cancer cells to hide from the immune attacks. Immunotherapy is often used in advanced or metastatic lung cancer and it can be combined with chemotherapy. Pembrolizumab and Nivolumab these are the common immunotherapy drugs used for lung cancer. Common side effects may includes fatigue, rash, diarrhea and immune-related complications like inflammation in the lungs or in liver.
SURGERY :
Surgery is the primary treatment option for early-stage lung cancer. It involves removing the tumors along with the surrounding healthy tissue to ensure no cancer cells left behind. It prevent the spread of lung cancer cells. Procedure may include a wedge resection ( removing a small section ), lobectomy (removing entire lobe), or pneumonectomy (removing an entire lung). Lymph node may also remove during the surgery to check the spread of cancer. It is often combined with chemotherapy or radiation to improve outcomes. The common side effects can includes pain, shortness of breath and fatigue.
